Alexander Puschkin gehört zu den ganz großen russischen Schriftstellern und wird in seinem Heimatland verehrt wie hierzulande Goethe. Doch ist er weniger bekannt, vor allem weil er hauptsächlich Verserzählungen geschrieben hat, die nahezu unübersetzbar sind. „Pique Dame“ ist eine seiner wenigen Prosaerzählungen.
