Marie Leprince de Beaumont was a French author and esteemed children’s educator. Born to a poor family in Rouen in 1711, de Beaumont attained a prominent position as a children’s singing teacher in the court of the Duke of Lorraine as a young woman before moving to London and finding work as a governess.
